Scandal stylist, Lyn Paolo, mixes suiting separates to style Scandal’s main character, Olivia Pope. The Limited’s Scandal collection contains 78 pieces that you can mix and match.
Traditional suiting is an essential base for a professional work wardrobe. Pieces with character are also great. Non-traditional suiting pieces that are conservative but feminine are a great way to build on your professional attire. Pieces that are structured and feminine are great choices. The key to keeping your look professional is to keep non-traditional suiting in neutral palettes. Mixing prints and using multiple bold colors should be done with classic suiting.
The collection is largely inspired by Olivia Pope, who is played by Kerry Washington. In an interview about the The Limited’s Scandal collection, Kerry expressed:
“For me the way the clothing line relates to having it all, is that I think women often feel like they have to be either smart or beautiful, powerful or pretty, either fashion forward or successful, and I think this clothing line says you can be all of those things. You can be fabulous and fearless. And you don’t have to compromise who you are as a woman to fit somebody’s expectation of what power looks like”
The Limited’s collection reflects sophistication and style. The pieces have an understated elegance that pairs well with simple pearls or diamond jewelry for a classic look and goes just as well with statement jewelry for a modern look.
Below is a princess coat I’ve personally had my eye on. Although it is not part of the Scandal collection, I think it is reminiscent of the Olivia Pope character and a showstopper.
This collection seems promising and Kerry speaks well of it on The Limited’s website, but I could not find an image of Kerry wearing an outfit from this Scandal collection. That makes me wonder whether contracts between The Limited and Kerry included sponsored videos for the site but contained nothing calling for Kerry to sport the clothes to any event(s). Of course, if Kerry truly loves the Scandal collection and wanted the line to do well, she should have worn some or at least one of these outfits to coincide with the recent premier of Scandal’s new season.
